1901 – Soldiers on the beach near Torrijos

Detachments, 1st and 2nd infantry on beach in Marinduque, probably near Torrijos, Marinduque, where Co. A, 1st. infantry was stationed 1901.

Judging by the picture this would be the bay just south of Poctoy beach area near Gabison Pottery in Torrijos. Time frame corresponds to Lt. Col A.W. Corliss Campaign, December 1900- January 1901 –

After establishing an intelligence system and apportioning the newly constituted garrison (two companies of the 1st and four companies of the 2nd Infantries) among the island’s five major towns. Corliss coordinated these operations with the aid of the harbor launch Kansas City, which he succeeded in getting permanently assigned to Marinduque.
